The Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4)

When the Holy Spirit comes…

  • it sounds like the blowing of a mighty wind.
  • it appears as tongues of fire.
  • the people are filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in various tongues.

Other places where believers were filled (Acts 10:44-48, 19:1-8)

They begin speaking in various "tongues" (languages) through the Holy Spirit.

10 Benefits of Speaking in Tongues and Praying in the Spirit

  1. Speaking in tongues is the initial sign of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:4
  2. Speaking in tongues gives us the power to be witnesses. Acts 1:8
  3. Speaking in tongues give us the power to preach the Word (witness) boldly. Acts 4:31
  4. Speaking in tongues is for spiritual edification and spiritual refreshing. 1 Corinthians 14:4; Isaiah 28:11,12
  5. Speaking in tongues remind us of the Spirit’s indwelling or presence. John 14:16,17
  6. Praying through the Spirit keeps our prayers in-line with God's will. Romans 8:26
  7. Praying through the Spirit enables us to pray for unknown needs. Romans 8:26
  8. Praying through the Spirit stimulates faith. Jude 20
  9. Praying and speaking through the Spirit tames the tongue. James 3:8
  10. Singing and praying through the Spirit brings thanks and praise to God. 1 Corinthians 14:14-19

What the Holy Spirit will not do for you

  • Keep your life pure.
  • Keep Satan from coming into your camp.
  • Do for you that which you should do for yourself.
  • Free you from addictions.
  • Keep the river within you flowing freely.
